The School of Biosciences is one of the two schools of the College of Natural Sciences. The School was introduced after the transformation of Makerere University into a collegiate university effective 1st July 2011. The School is headed by a Dean and the current dean is Dr. Joseph Kyambadde
The School of Biosciences has three departments:
- The Department of Plant Sciences, Microbiology and Biotechnology
- The Department of Biochemistry and Sports Science
- The Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences
The School offers undergraduate and graduate degree Programmes in basic sciences and some areas of applied sciences have also been developed over the past few years. The disciplines handled under the School of Biosciences include: botany, zoology, biochemistry, sports science, biotechnology, aquaculture and ethnobotany. The School has laboratory facilities both for teaching and research.
Research partnerships between the school and international institutions have greatly supported various new innovations as well as capacity building for staff and students. One of its key innovations is the herbal medicinal products.
